About Rwanda & Uganda

These two East African nations share much more than just a border. Both have recently reemerged from the darkest depths of civil war and now stand as global models for the power and resiliency of the human spirit.

The end of war also returned access to their most valuable resource and their greatest gift to the rest of the world: the last remaining Mountain Gorillas on Earth. Go soon, because the window of opportunity to see these magnificent primates- with whom we share 98% of our genes- may be closing. Poaching and habitat loss continue to exact their tolls and, each year, the population continues to decline. By recent estimates, a mere 800 individuals are all that stand between the species’ survival on Earth and oblivion.

Thomson Experiences in Rwanda & Uganda

PHOTOGRAPHY
Uganda and Rwanda are at the center of the remaining universe for Mountain Gorillas; and this is the only place on Earth where it is still possible to see and photograph these extraordinary animals on their own terms, up close, in their natural habitat.
WILDLIFE
One word: Africa. If wildlife is what you’re looking for, that’s all you need to know. No other continent in the world comes close. It’s been come to be known as The Greatest Show on Earth, and Uganda and Rwanda have more than their fair share of The Show. When it comes to Mountain Gorillas, these two nations are the show.
MULTI-GENERATIONAL

Traveling the world with your family is like sharing a box filled with presents. The box is the world itself and the presents are the bonds that form through the experiences we share, and the perspective, patience, understanding, and tolerance we gain from expanding our horizons and seeing how other people live. There is no greater gift.
